My perception of our word is that racism exists everywhere, even in the land of Liberty, America. I am aware of the fact that there is racism against not only blacks, but also Whites, Asians, along with people from all other ethnicities. Me coming to America was a blessing. Also my perception about African-Americans was not what I thought. My relatives over here told me a lot about how African-Americans make racist jokes. I didn’t agree with them, because from watching movies like coming to America by Eddie Murphy made me believe African-Americans were nice and friendly. One of my earliest experiences that has affected me with this was a black Individual was in high school. I remembered my first day at school, I was going to my algebra Classroom, I decide to use the restroom. When I came back, a girl accused me of stealing her phone. My teacher tried to defend me, but she was like the teacher doesn’t know me and what I can or can’t do. She expressed her feelings how feel about Africans. She went and called the school police on me. I explained it to the police, I said let’s call her phone to hear where it rang from. I was in her in purse and she apologized to me for the accusation. Because I was new in school, didn’t talk much, not being aggressive, also an African. This experience made me racist towards African-Americans for a short period.
